Having been open for coming up to 6 months now we have been asked numerous questions by our customers and friends...and to answer some of them here is a quick Q & A
Where are you?
1 The Shambles, High Street, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3EX. We are just off the cobbled High Street down The Shambles.
The Shambles can be found near the bottom of the cobbled High Street between The Gap and the Nokia phone shop.
Do you do office deliveries?
We are delighted to bring you great sandwiches and salads straight to your workplace. Just because it's raining and you don't want to leave the office doesn't mean you shouldn't have a good lunch! Are you an Italian restaurant?
We are certainly not a restaurant. We are an Italian café-bar, serving panini, sandwiches, traditional Italian antipasto, salads, locally made cakes, freshly ground coffee, Italian wines and more...
Do you do pizza and pasta?
We do not do pasta or traditional Italian pizza. This is because from our experience the pizza and pasta that can be found in the UK does not compare to that from our homeland in Puglia, Southern Italy. While they may seem simple to make, there are many variables that combine to make the food you might be familiar with from your holidays and miss so much. The ingredients have to come together with cooking ability and knowledge to create a delicious pizza or a perfect plate of pasta.
We believe this is simply not possible in the UK unless you are willing to spend a small fortune, and as one of guiding philosophies is “Italian food at Italian prices” we believe you shouldn't! There are plenty of other great Italian foods that you can enjoy at Vero Cibo!
What is antipasto?
While the term might be familiar to those that have eaten a full Italian meal, but for those that haven't the meal roughly goes in the following stages – antipasto (salumi, cheese, sott'oli, bruschetta type food), then il primo (pasta or soup), il secondo (the meat or fish) followed by dolce (desserts), fruit and coffee and so on.
At Vero Cibo we concentrate our efforts at the antipasto level of the meal. This is because we believe we can bring you food that is as good as anything you will eat anywhere in Italy. Why? Because it is at this level that it needs the least preparation. We believe with fewer steps between the fantastic raw ingredients we use and you, the food is that much better!
Have you misspelt “salami” as “salumi”?
No. Salami is just one type of salumi. Salumi also includes other cured meats such as prosciutto.
Do you do chips?
Absolutely not!
Do you have a children's menu?
We do not yet have a dedicated children's menu, but are in the process of getting one together, so watch this space!
Why was this website inactive for so long?
Well, we had wanted the website up and running from day 1, but we have been very busy dealing with all the bits and pieces that make up Vero Cibo, and unfortunately as a result the website was not given the attention it deserved! However, that is changing!
Please keep checking back at our site, as while it may not have been active before, thanks to the efforts of an Eminently Miraculous Individual we are fortunate enough to have working with us we have a multi-tasker extraordinaire who can be found making panini by day and editing websites by night to keep us active and interesting!
